Clean Credit Report Archives

Can it will be possible to rectifies and clean up the credit report. Are any agencies available to do this at low cost

If anyone offers to clean up your credit report fast, run the other way. There is no guaranteed, low cost way of doing this. All you can do is bring your accounts current, then pay on time and wait as your credit score increases. Some companies may allow a "pay for delete" in which you pay off the balance and they remover the negative info, but this is not guaranteed nor is it even necessary for the company to agree to. An offer to settle for less than 100% will probably result in continued reporting of the delinquency to the credit bureau (the company has no incentive to delete if you aren’t paying the full bill).

How do i clean up my credit report??

How do i clean up my credit report. I have paid balances on it and non paid. No one has sent me any bills Im not sure what i owe out.
Is there a service a can contact to help me with this?

Contact a credit reporting agency. You usually get one free credit report each year, I think. You should pay off any past due outstanding balances, and close any accounts that you don’t use. Pay your bills on time, that is the biggest piece of advice.

Is your credit report clean after 7 years?

I have a few accounts in collections and my credit got ruined due to a lay off since 2000. Does your credit report clear after 7 years even though you have not paid the accounts? Thanks.

The first two posters are incorrect – it is illegal to re-age accounts and have them run for longer then the orginal time.

If the accounts you have are credit cards, then they will remain on your reports from the first time you became 30 days late and never brought the account current leading to the charge off.

If they are loans, medical, utility, etc, then the obsolescence date starts from the last payment.

Keep in mind that just because they fall off your report in 7 years does not mean the creditor or collector cannot sue if you are still within the collecting SOL for your state.

First, get copies from all three bureaus, Equifax, Trans Union, and Experian.
You will find some things on one but not the other in most cases.
Begin to make arrangements with the accounts that are still reporting active information. No matter how late, get some type of payment arrangement set up with them.
Then, start working on the items that are no longer active. You can tell the last date reported on the bureaus. Try to clean up as many of them as possible.
Stop applying for credit, this takes points away, and does not look good if you have too many inquires.
If you have an auto or mortgage, PAY THEM ON TIME, every month, these type accounts will produce more positive points for on time payments than revolving or credit card accounts.
Good luck, it won’t be easy, but it will be worth it in the long run.

who do i Hire to help me clean my credit report?

There’s nothing they can do that you can’t do yourself, for free. If there are any inaccurate reports, dispute them. You can go to Equifax, Trans-Union and Esperian’s websites and do it online.

I am 43 had 3 husbands and they ruined me and my credit. I don’t have 7 yrs to wait for it to be cleared and I don’t want bankruptcy…can I change my name and ss# and get a clean credit report. Desperate to live again!!

There is not a way to change a social security number just in order to clear your credit. Yes, bankruotcy is an option. It will stay on your credit for seven years but (there are always buts in life) there are different chapters of bankruotcy. Chapter 13 is basically a debt consolidation. You and your creditors agree on a plan to pay back debt and that can be anywhaere from 3 to seven years before its dicharged and you can reestablish credit. There is also Chapter 7, this basically wipes out EVERYTHING and is discharged in 3 to 6 months allowing you to reestablish your credit sooner. It is pretty easy once the bankruptcy is discharged to reestablish yourself.

Cleaning the Mess in Your Credit Report

An important factor that plays an important role in maintaining a clean credit report is actually the contents of your credit report. The credit report is pretty much the story of your financial life, contained in a detailed document.

The credit report carries the credit score, which is a numeric ranking usually between 300 and 850. Several lenders use the credit score to help them decided whether you are worthy of a credit. More so, the score is also used to determine your capability of paying a loan. The credit report is important and cleaning or maintaining a good credit report is vital to your financial survival.

A Look inside the Credit Report

In a credit report, the first entry is normally your  personal information. It includes your name, listed telephone number/s, previous and current addresses, reported differences of your Social Security Number, past and present employer and the date of birth.

The information regarding your credit accounts follows your personal information entry. This is also listed in detail and normally includes loans, the maximum loan amount, and information of any joint account holders or co-signers. The credit report also incorporate a section, called Inquiries, which lists any person who has recently requested a copy of the credit report.

There are some states, wherein the credit report contains public record information. This information can feature overdue payments, bankruptcies or other judgments in the court. Normally, these entries can last for up to ten years and may affect your chances of obtaining a loan negatively.

How to Start

Firstly, in order to clean your credit report, you will need to order a copy of the report. You must determine what is out of date or inaccurate, after which you can submit a letter to the bureau requesting fixes to the information. This process may take a long time and you may be required to do several follow-ups with each bureau before achieving a clean credit report. However, to perform this correctly, you must be aware of the information the credit agencies are allowed to report and the duration.

Ordering a credit report can be easily done and accessible to everyone, since at least one free report can be obtained by the consumer each year; this rule is also included under the FCRA or Fair Credit Reporting Act. More so, the consumer is also allowed to obtain a free copy of his or her credit report each year from each of the three major companies handling credit reporting, namely the Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. However, in case you have already obtained a copy of your credit report this year, you may be required to pay an additional fee if you want another copy.

Once you have obtained your report, review it carefully. Every detail must be inspected since bureaus can sometimes confuse names, addresses or employers. Most often, people who have common names have credit reports that may contain information on other variations of their name.

Additionally, it is important to perform a periodic check on the credit report. It is advisable to order a copy of the report once a year and dispute any possible inaccuracies. Always take careful steps in handling your payments and make sure not to make any late payments. Time is of the essence and even minimum payments should not be neglected. Remember that carefully managing your credit can add as much as fifty points to your credit score per year.
