Credit Repair You Can Do Yourself

There’s something both the indulgent spenders and those involved in serious need can both share : the need for credit fixing. Nobody wants to brush everyone under the rug, of dismissing them as folks who can’t plan a budget and stick to it. But the reality is both people who spend indulgently, way more than they can afford, and those with medical bills and family problems, both may finish up with an impaired credit score. Nobody wants that. The thought of some is to have a look for credit correction solutions offered by some firms, the majority of which are likely scams. Any person can improve their credit history, in the legal and bonafide way. But what most of the people need is some here and now instant solution. Naturally, some corporations will jump on that need. Therefore the expansion of trick firms. But you can mend your credit standing yourself. Here are 4 ways to just do that, yourself. No a cent spent or con concerned. Have somebody add you as an allowed user on their Mastercard. A good and certain way to boost phenomenally your credit standing is to have your relations, 1 or 2 of them, to add your name as on of the authorized users of the visa cards they actively use. Getting them to do might not be simple if you are known to them as somebody untrustworthy, so you would need to guarantee them you are straightening out your life. The benefit getting your name added to their card’s allowed-to-use list is this comes off as a positive mark on your credit score. The common reason is that somebody trusts you to not abuse their card. Just make certain that the relative you ask to have you added also has a commendable credit report. Otherwise, it is a bit purposeless to be added to their list.

That would adversely influence your credit standing, rather than helping. Settle on a spending ceiling on your ATM card. Putting a cap on how much you can spend is usually a good thing. Having a record that you telephoned your ATM card issuer to restrict your card’s expenditure limit is typically taken as a signal that you do not want to spend more than a certain limit. The limit is generally believed to be how much you earn. This speaks of discipline and foresight. Worth doing. Up the limit on the Visa card you are using. On the other end of the card range is rapidly increasing your card’s spending ceiling. When you successfully convince your Visa card issuer to increase your limit, that’s interpreted to mean the issuer has decided you are loyal, which sometimes means your earnings is stable and can support the required payments. This will reflect nicely on your credit standing. Complain if you are paying a loan.

When paying up for a study loan, contact the coed loan ombudsman, or the office handing your loan payments. You’ve got to do this before you telephone your creditor, because those that provide loans have to make the payment selections suitable to people who borrow them.

If you’re convincing enough, you could be lucky to have the records of delinquent payments removed from your account. This is a great thing. You would like as few bad marks on your credit status, as much as practical. The tips detailed here aren’t at all exhaustive.

You are inspired to go looking for more tips in shouldering and pulling off your credit fixing yourself, without turning to clearing a corporation that offers to enhance your credit score or standing at a fee. As has been discussed before, probably they are stings. Visit govt and non-government web sites, which are non-profit in nature, for more info.

Did you know that every day the Citizen Advice Bureau deals with over 5000 new debt problem enquiries? And with interest rates rising, the chances are that more people will face problems with their debt – in fact there is likely to be a ten-year high for county court judgements in 2007 with around 1 million CCJs in total.

Getting a mortgage with poor credit can be a nightmare – High St lenders will usually refuse your application if you have a default or a CCJ on your record. So what can you do about it?

There are two main credit reference companies in the UK – contacting either one will enable you to find out what your credit rating is. However, if you have a County Court Judgement or a default then it is highly likely that your credit rating has been compromised.

A mortgage default is any violation of the credit agreement you have with your mortgage lender and could be issued even if you have only missed one payment. A default is registered on your credit file showing the date you broke your credit agreement, the amount you owed when the agreement was broken and the amount still owed.

A CCJ is issued by a judge at your local country court and follows a formal demand for payment from your creditor (which you have ignored) and then a “Claim Form” which demands payment in 14 days or a written defence of your position. If you ignore this claim form your creditor will ask the court to send you a CCJ, which gives you 28 days to pay.

The main difference between a default and a CCJ, is that the latter can be withdrawn from your file if cleared within one month (28 days) whereas the former is there for six years.

So the good news is that if you have received a CCJ, a poor credit rating is not necessarily inevitable. In fact, by arranging a quick remortgage with a specialist lender you can pay off the debt and have the CCJ removed from your credit record.

The bad news is that both a default and an unpaid CCJ are on your credit record for six years – that means any application for credit of any kind including a first-time mortgage or a remortgage will be assessed according to these negative credit score. And that means it’s unlikely any High St lender will accept your application whether it’s for a mortgage, credit card, overdraft or personal loan.

However, that’s not the whole story. There is a growing number of mortgage lenders specialising in people with a poor credit history. By arranging to remortgage with these lenders you can begin to repair the damage done to your credit rating by making regular payments with terms that suit your circumstances.

A quick remortgage can also help ease your debt problems by freeing up equity from home that you can use to pay off your debts, or by solving mortgage arrears or repossession issues with your previous lender.

In the present slowed down economy, everybody wishes to maintain a good credit standing. A good credit record means one is fiscally responsible enough to keep the connect between private earnings and spending on a continuing and pragmatic level. So if one is afflicted with skipped payments, this reflects badly on one’s credit standing. Enter credit fixing. This piece covers some ideas so that you can do the credit fixing yourself, so you will not need to pay for a company to do that for you.

Most of those corporations offering a virtually instant credit correction are crimes anyhow. Procure hard and soft copies of your credit reports from the credit firms. It is often better to grasp the lay of the land than not to grasp. You may be able to receive a no charge credit score each year. So take advantage of that. Also, when you get denied for something, you also become qualified to request a no cost credit score. This could give you a clear view of where you stand, and tell you how much work should be done. When you’ve got the correct numbers, you can plan in advance better than when you trusted speculation. Inspect your own credit report, spending behaviour. You have got to absolutely certain all accounts are yours, that one pretended to be somebody else and spent under your name. I. D. theft is common and you can attempt to dispute the records when you suspect somebody posed as you, over the telephone or through e-mail and snail mail.

Also, when you determine all of the accounts are actually yours, confirm they balance out. Pay out what’s still wanted to be paid. Tie up loose ends. Settle accounts in collection first, and straight away. Address these first as they adversely affect your financial record. Most collection corporations will take whatever you can give them, and since they are ready to chat this out, you may as well call them and see how far you can plan your debt payment to them, before really beginning payment. Bring your maxed out cards below its limit. It might take perhaps 2 full years for your credit standing to improve when you have exhausted cards. Some corporations out there really do try to loan you a hand with this, at no charge . But you’ve got to find those legit no charge corporations yourself, else you be tricked into payment. Ask relative to add your name to the list of users they permit to use their Visa card / s. If your name appears in somebody else’s Visa card users ‘ list, that’s taken as an indication of your loyalty. That implies you credit provided is presumed to have found out you’re financially stable.

Nobody announced it’d be simple to get back a good credit standing, particularly with the economy this down in the dumps. You can do your own credit fixing cleanly, legitimately, but it would most likely take a little time, and some continual, focused effort.

But the best thing is you can do it yourself and it can be at no charge to you.

Bad Credit Credit Repair Made Simple

Factors contributing to someone's credit score...

Image via Wikipedia

Many consumers are completely stressed out these days because their high interest rate credit card debt and their ever decreasing incomes don’t seem to add up at the end of the month. This leaves many people in the lurch and can push them into ruining their credit scores. It’s not that hard to ruin your credit, even if you have had years and years of spotless or nearly impeccable payment history. All it takes is a couple of 30 day lates to drop your score considerably. If you are like a lot of Americans these days, you have even more to worry about than a couple of 30 day lates. Home foreclosures are at all time record highs across the country and credit scores have plummeted across a wide swath of the American buying public. This has led to tighter credit restrictions by banks and the veritable end of sub-prime lending as we knew it. Even people with great credit are having difficulty getting home loans. Just try it with bad credit and you will find that it just can’t be done.

There are several techniques that you can use to accomplish bad credit credit repair. First though you need to thoroughly understand the process of credit and credit scoring. Lending institutions use your credit score as calculated by the three major credit reporting agencies to give out grades or scores. The credit reporting agencies use something called a FICO score which you may have heard about. FICO stands for Fair Isaac and Company and they invented the current system that is in use today. FICO scores start at 400 and go to over 900 points. A FICO score of over 800 is improbable and 700 to 720 is considered A plus credit by most lending institutions and banks.

You can get a free copy of your credit report by requesting a copy from each of the three credit reporting agencies. By law they have to provide you with a copy when you request it in writing or on their website. You can also get one by registering with www.freecreditreport.com or several other similar sites. Be careful though because they will ask for your credit card and could start debiting for automatic monthly payments after the trial period. You need to call in before the trial period is over in order to cancel the membership if you do not want to be charged. These sites have some great information on them and it is recommended that you read through all of their articles and FAQ pages. These will answer most questions that people have on bad credit credit repair.

Once you receive your free credit report, you need to find the negative items on the report. Sometimes this is not so easy to see and you have to be patient and read through the report carefully. You can then go to the credit reporting agency websites themselves and actually dispute items online. The three major credit reporting agencies are Equifax (www.equifax.com), Transunion (www.transunion.com) and Experian (www.experian.com). In order to perform bad credit credit repair you will need to dispute any negatively reported items that you think were erroneously reported. Once you click off which items you want to dispute on your credit report, the credit reporting agency will place that item “in dispute” and ask the creditor (credit card company) to check their records and make sure the negative item is not an error. Creditors usually have just 30 days to respond to these queries. If they do not respond in time, the credit reporting agencies are required to remove the negative items.

This is probably the quickest way of performing bad credit credit repair that is currently available without hiring an outside third party expert.

How to Repair Your Credit in 10 Steps

Step one – Get copies of your credit reports. Once you have your credit reports in your hand, review them carefully for inaccurate information. After reviewing them and you find errors, use a sample dispute letter that you can find on the internet to dispute the errors you found. Send this letter by way of certified mail and return receipt. The credit bureaus has 30 days to investigate the inaccurate information and get back with you. If they cannot complete the investigation within 30 days, then according to THE FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT, they must delete the item.

Step two – If 30 days has past and you still have not heard from the credit bureaus, then send out a follow-up letter restating the inaccurate information in your credit reports.

Step three – Once you get your credit reports back after the 30 days and you notice that the errors have not been corrected, then send out a more threatening letter using the language from the FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT,

Step four – After receiving your credit reports for a fourth time, and the credit bureaus still have not fixed the errors, then you will inform the credit bureaus that if they don’t fix the problems in your report, you will file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

Step five – Still have not seen any changes in your credit reports, then file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and attach a copy of your complaint to your 5th dispute letter. In the 5th letter you will inform the credit bureaus that you will file a complaint with the office of the Attorney General.

Step six – Still no changes to your credit reports, then file a complaint with the office of the Attorney General and attach the complaint to your 6th dispute letter. This time in this letter you will inform the credit bureaus that you will file a complaint with their state Senators office. Attach your complaint to the Attorney Generals office with your 6th letter.

Step seven – Still no changes to your credit reports, then write the credit bureaus and inform them that if the errors on your credit reports is not fixed within 30 days, then you have no other choice but to seek legal advice.

Step eight – Still no changes to your credit reports, then send a letter to the credit bureaus threatening to sue for failing to properly investigate the errors on your credit report according to the THE FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT.

Step nine – Still no changes to your credit reports, then sue the credit bureaus in small claims court. Seek the advice of an attorney or contact the courts for the proper procedures on filing. Once you have filed your complaint, send a copy of your complaint along with a letter informing the credit bureaus that you are suing them and that they have 15 days to respond and correct the problem on your credit report.

Step 10 – Still no changes to your credit reports, and the credit bureaus has not responded to your letters, then proceed with the suit in small claims court.

Credit Repair: What not to Do!

Beware of Store Cards

Department stores love to push their credit cards by offering a discount on your purchase if you sign up on the spot. This can be a good deal. But it is handy to know that store cards create triple trouble on your credit report. First, your score will be reduced because of the inquiry. Second, your score will be reduced because of the new account that will soon appear on your report. And third, store cards tend to give a low credit line, often just above your purchase amount. This can be terribly damaging as the FICO credit scoring model puts a lot of weight on the relationship between your balance and your high credit limit.

Watch That High Limit

I run a national credit repair company and speak to people all day long about their credit reports. One of the bits of advice that we like to offer our customers is to pretend they only have half the limit on their credit card that they really have. It takes some discipline to do this but it can make a big difference on your credit score. As soon as your balance exceeds fifty percent of your available limit your credit score will start to suffer. If your credit balances are currently close to your credit limits you might consider calling the credit card companies and asking them to increase your limit. You will be amazed at how fast this can make your score go up!

The Auto Shopping Credit Trap

I can’t tell you the number of times that we have looked at a credit report and seen multiple auto credit inquiries. When we ask our customer they inform us that they only went to two different dealers. Auto dealers will often shop for the best interest rate for you. If they shop with three auto finance companies you will have three credit inquiries. These multiple inquiries can have a significant impact on your score. This is not the auto dealers fault. After all, they are acting your best interest, but it is best to be aware of the possibilities. If you are shopping for a car I would suggest not providing your Social Security number until you are settled on the car you want.

No More Mr. (or Mrs.) Nice Guy

Just about every day in the credit repair business we come across someone that was nice enough to co-sign for someone on a car loan. I’m sorry to say this, but chances are that if they need you to co-sign they will not make their payments on time. And this will kill your credit scores. I know that this is a tough call. It is hard to say “no”. If this situation arises in your life I suggest an alternative approach. Go ahead and co-sign. But when the payment book arrives ask them to give it to you. Have them pay you instead of the auto finance company. You will make the payments on time. And maybe they will feel some extra obligation to make their payments to you on time as opposed to some anonymous auto finance company.

Don’t get complacent

Check your credit from time to time. In December of 2003 Congress passed the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act) which, among other things gives you the right to get a free credit report from each bureau one time per year. This law was passed to protect you from the credit reporting errors that occur far too frequently. Don’t imagine that because you are doing everything right that the credit bureaus are reporting everything correctly. Get your reports and proof read them carefully. It’s your right.

No explanations needed

Are there errors on your report? Whatever you do please don’t write an explanation for the credit bureaus to include on your credit report. No creditor wants to see your story. Sorry! But it’s true. If there is something wrong on your credit report you should dispute it! If you don’t feel up to the challenge of dealing with the credit bureaus hire a reputable credit repair company. They have the experience and knowledge to get the job done for you. A good credit repair company should be affordable and efficient. You should never have to commit for a predetermined period of time. Before you hire someone pick up the phone and talk to them. Make sure you are comfortable. It’s your money
