i’m having a hard time figuring out how to explain this, so bear with me:
if you open more credit cards and dont use them while still keeping them open, i believe that will increase your score because they wont show bad credit
also, somebody with good credit can add your name to their credit card and you can sort of piggyback their good credit
there is a company (i’ve forgotten the name) that finds people with open spaces on their credit cards and adds you to them, which is supposed to boost your credit score by hundreds of points.

1500 bucks for all those?! you’re in good shape, dont worry about that. If you call the credit card company set up some automatic payments for the next few months to pay it off. Usually after the account is in good standing for 90 days it’ll be corrected on your credit report. Make sure to ask them if this is the case when you set up the payments, get them to send you a letter too. Its best to pay them off one at a time (for ex: cable, then credit, then phone etc) so you can send out bigger chunks of payments. Many places are more than willing to setup something for you, just make sure you get what you need too — a good rating on your report!

Try to call the places and settle directly. It’s really your best bet. I had to suck it up and do it to clean up my credit report, and although mine is not the best now, I can actually GET credit, which I couldn’t before.

Begin by separating the accounts. Pay the highest interest ones first, followed by the lower interest ones. If your credit card account is still open keep it open and begin making on time payments. If you are unsure of the accuracy of any of the accounts listed on your credit report you can ask the bureaus to verify the information. Check out the site below for details on disputing information on your credit report.

Like the one poster said, $1500 for all that isn’t bad at all. At one point, I had a $1500 cell phone bill alone (and I paid it off). I can give you a suggestion on how to fix this:
Organize the accounts in order from least to greatest. Starting with the least amount first. If you have the $ to pay it, what you can do is contact the collector and neogtiate to pay if they remove it from your report. Now they don’t have to do it, but they can. If you’re able to get them to agree to this, make sure that you GET IT IN WRITING before sending them a penny! Something on their company letterhead stating that they’ll remove account #________ from all 3 bureaus. If you’re not able to do this, then I would wait at least 6 months to dispute the account with the credit bureaus. Hopefully, they will have purged your information form their records and they won’t be able to verify the debt when you dispute it, and it comes off your record.
It will take some time to get this done, but I have confidence that this will work for you
