If you are not sure who you owe or how much, I would start by getting your credit report. The only way to clean it up, is to do exactly that--clean it up. Any service will only charge you a fee for what you can do for free & pretty easily on your own. 1. Get your credit report from all 3 agencies for free at www.annualcreditreport.com and if you want, you can pay like $6 to each to get the score. 2. see what is out there & take care of it. I dont understand why they have not contacted you if you owe them money. Maybe you moved & they dont have a new address or something. But, call them & have them send you a bill for what you owe. If you think you dont owe it for whatever reason, tell them & have them prove you owe it. A financial advisor cant do squat for your credit! You usually get one free credit report each year, I think. You should pay off any past due outstanding balances, and close any accounts that you don't use.
