I heard you can raise credit score if someone add you to their credit line, does that person need to have a good credit score in order for your credit score to go up?

Not only do you need to be added as an "authorized user" it needs to note your social security number. I can add "Joe Smith" to my Visa card and the credit agencies won’t know Joe T. Smith from Joe W. Smith. Now, if I add Joe Smith with SS# 999-888-7777 to my acct it will link up with his credit report.

My parents did this for me when I just started out. It gave my credit a big boost since they ahd the card for a long time, always made their payments on time, had a high limit and a low balance. I would just pay for whatever I charged and it worked out fine.

Make sure though, that if you are going to BORROW someone’s credit that you treat it well. Also, if you are going to LEND your credit to anyone wether it be adding an authorized user or co-signing please make sure that you trust the person and that they are good for the loan!

Can I rent with bad credit, while my roommates have good credit?

My credit history is a little sketchy with a few bad months of late credit card payments. I am afraid my potential having bad credit will keep myself and roommates from renting.

If I have bad recent credit history but my 3 roommates have good credit, will I ruin our chances?

Your credit shouldn’t prevent everyone from getting the apartment because there are a lot of people with less than ideal credit that can rent. However, if there is a problem, you could always have their names on the apartment, and you just pay your portion to them every month.

Leasing offices check a variety of factors, including employment and income, having a lower credit score shouldn’t prevent you from renting.

I have a few accounts in collections and my credit got ruined due to a lay off since 2000. Does your credit report clear after 7 years even though you have not paid the accounts? Thanks.

The first two posters are incorrect – it is illegal to re-age accounts and have them run for longer then the orginal time.

If the accounts you have are credit cards, then they will remain on your reports from the first time you became 30 days late and never brought the account current leading to the charge off.

If they are loans, medical, utility, etc, then the obsolescence date starts from the last payment.

Keep in mind that just because they fall off your report in 7 years does not mean the creditor or collector cannot sue if you are still within the collecting SOL for your state.

How to fix credit and raise credit score?

I’m trying to fix my credit and Raise My Credit Score what are the steps to do that. I read that if you have any debt on your credit report over 2yrs. do not pay it because it lowers your credit score. Is this true.

It’s a pretty easy process…. but it takes a long time. You have to be patient. I would consider cutting up most of your credit cards and then adding everything up and decide which one to pay off first. Then when you’re done with that one, say you paid $50/mo, add it to the next one. So if you were pay $50 on the next one, you would now be paying $100/mo.

And you probably heard wrong about not paying credit cards. You should pay them, but if you haven’t paid them and you are close to the statute of limitations for your state then do not pay. When you reach the SoL you legally do not owe that money any more.

Also, as far as your credit score it will take a while to go up. Even though credit companies are suppose to report every month, sometimes they don’t. or they only report the bad, not the good.

And your credit score is a calculated formula, so if after you pay off most of your debt, but still have many cards open & with balances, your credit (FICO) score may still remain high until your debt to income ratio goes down. So, if your income goes up, your credit score can also have the ability to go up.

I agree with the previous poster….. do not pay for someone to give you advice. If anything go to your local CCCS.

What is the easiest department store credit card to apply for with bad credit?

I’m interested in applying for a department store credit card like Carsons, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. However, my credit is not all that great right now but I would like a chance to RE-BUILD it. Does anyone have any experience with getting a department store credit card but you had bad credit? I appreciate and thank-you guys in advance for your kind answers and intelligent business advice.

It depends on whether or not you have unpaid bills on your report. If you do, it will be hard to convince a credit card company that you’re going to pay them.

You might try local merchants such as American Eagle, or a jewelry store. They’re pretty easy to get.

What are the necessary steps to clean credit report and how long to wait before buying a house?

First, get copies from all three bureaus, Equifax, Trans Union, and Experian.
You will find some things on one but not the other in most cases.
Begin to make arrangements with the accounts that are still reporting active information. No matter how late, get some type of payment arrangement set up with them.
Then, start working on the items that are no longer active. You can tell the last date reported on the bureaus. Try to clean up as many of them as possible.
Stop applying for credit, this takes points away, and does not look good if you have too many inquires.
If you have an auto or mortgage, PAY THEM ON TIME, every month, these type accounts will produce more positive points for on time payments than revolving or credit card accounts.
Good luck, it won’t be easy, but it will be worth it in the long run.
